Blur Review
by sockmerchant on Jun.21, 2010, under Games

As written for Button Masher
Blur is an interesting game. It is a Bizarre (see what I did there) mix of Project Gotham Racing and Mario Kart. That is to say it is an arcade racer that has you driving real cars in real locations while firing some very fantastical weapons at anything else that moves.
Crysis 2
by sockmerchant on Jun.17, 2010, under Games

The first Crysis was a pretty decent game and looked absolutely stunning. Well, it does if you have an incredibly powerful PC. Crysis 2 was announced some time back and brings two things that makes it infinitely more appealing to me. Firstly, Its multiplatform which means I can play it with my 360 pad on 360, as opposed to with my 360 pad on my PC (as I played the first). More importantly though it means I don’t have to turn down pretty much everything just to get it to run at close to 30 fps. Secondly I am led to believe it has a more urban setting. That’s just a personal preference however, I just like cities more than jungles. Jungles have loads of bugs, smoke mosnters and terrible reception, which is why I live in the city. Below you will find some in game footage of Crysis 2. Looks good to me.
Shank Trailer

Shank is a 2D brawler that should be hitting Xbox Live, PSN and PC in the near future. It looks pretty darn cool to me. 2D side scrollers are really making a comeback thanks to digital download services with some really interesting games being released as a result. Check out Klei entertainment’s Shank.
Morgan Freeman Looks for a Creator
by sockmerchant on Jun.09, 2010, under Science, TV
Hold on I thought Morgan Freeman was god? Oh that’s just a movie? Never mind. A new series on the Science Channel has Mr Freeman narrating as the show searches for answers to cosmology’s biggest questions. The title of the series’s debut episode – “Is There A Creator?” – should make it clear just how ambitious this program is attempting to be. While I doubt this episode will answer more on this question for the sceptics out there, it should be an interesting watch.
The Robot Swarm is Coming
by sockmerchant on Jun.08, 2010, under Robotics

It seems that the robot uprising is becoming more of an inevitability each passing day. The Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich have created some autonomous robots that can dock with each other. The little hexagonal modules that make up the flying drone are completely self-sufficient. In the context of a robot army, that means the airborne robot could be indestructible. Because the
magnetically connected ‘bots easily break away from each other, they could blow apart under attack, and then reassemble themselves on the ground, good as new. This concept reminds me an awful lot about the antagonist species from the series of books in the “Revelation Space” universe by Alastair Reynolds. Scary but awesome stuff.
